The transfer window is meant to cause a furor. That’s what it has been for years, probably decades.
- Arsenal are linked with Mohamed Elneny, Victor Wanyama and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
- Man United are linked with a big-money move for Saido Mane, Felipe Anderson and Neymar.
- Man City are linked with Isco from Real Madrid.
- PSG are linked with Marko Arnautovic.
- Barcelona are linked with Paul Pogba.
A combination of journalists, agents and players will be controlling the transfer window and less so for managers. Managers will be receiving more calls from agents about transfer stories. Agents are running the game and they’ve been doing so for a while. Player power will also come into play.
For managers, the situation is hard because you have to find players who will improve your squad and take off almost immediately. If managers sign players and give them a 3 to 4 year contract, then those players don’t take off; it is a major problem that disrupts the balance of the team and obviously the results.
Are quality players easy to find in January? I don’t think so. Don’t get me wrong. There are lots of quality players in teams across the world. However, these players are not easy to sign in January simply because teams are unwilling to sell regardless of player power.
The only easy way of signing players in January is if those players want to move in order to get more playing time. Are players who are looking for more play time quality? Your guess is as good as mine.
So, if you are a fan of Arsenal, Man United, Man City, Chelsea or other top teams and looking for major signings, January transfer window may not be the answer.
For now, let’s wait and see what happens in the next few weeks, especially the final 2 to 3 days of the transfer window.
