Ranieri breaks Jose Mourinho’s League record

Claudio Ranieri has always been popular in England, so there’ll be plenty of people who are very happy to see him earn himself a record to go along with his Premier League title.

Tottenham’s failure to beat Chelsea on Monday night handed the title to Leicester and means the 64-year-old needed just 294 days from his appointment to win the Premier League, a record which he takes from Jose Mourinho who brought the title to Stamford Bridge 332 days after becoming the Italian’s successor at Chelsea in 2004.

Mourinho was famously disparaging about Ranieri when the pair were both managing in Italy, saying: “He has lived for five years in England and still has trouble saying good morning and good afternoon. He is almost 70, and he has won a Super Cup and another small cup. He’s too old to change mentality.”

Now Ranieri is lifting the Premier League trophy while the unemployed Mourinho watches from his sofa.
